Air Commodore Abul Fazal Muhammad Atiquzzaman, GUP, ndc, psc was born in Bhairab Bazar under Kishoreganj district in the year of 1973. He obtained B.Sc (Aeronautical) degree from Rajshahi University and was commissioned in Bangladesh Air Force in General Duties (Pilot) Branch on 25 June 1992. Later, he accomplished Flight Safety Officers’ Course and Flying Instructors’ Course from FIS BAF. He attained training in various institutions at home and abroad. Air Cdre Atiq is a distinguished pilot in Bangladesh Air Force and continued to pursue his flying career in national and international environments.

Air Cdre Atiq has served in many key appointments like Flt Cdr (Trg & Ops) of different Flying Squadrons, Officer Commanding I&SC and 31 Squadron BAF, Deputy Director Plan, Deputy Director Works, Deputy Director Air Ops, Deputy Director Air Trg, Commandant Helicopter Simulator Institute, Senior Staff Officer and Director of Air Trg at Air HQ. He served in UN Peacekeeping Missions in Persian Gulf and African regions. In the mission area he served as Pilot-in-Command of BANAIR-4, UNIKOM, Kuwait, Second-in-Command of BANAIR-3, Ivory Coast and Officer-in-Charge of Aviation, BANAIR-12, MONUSCO, DR Congo.Presently he is detailed to perform the duties of Commandant and Project Director of Airmen Training Institute BAF since 29 December 2020. Overseas visit profile of Air Cdre Atiq includes countries like Singapore, Kuwait, Srilanka, Thailand, Australia, Ukraine, UAE, DR Congo, Uganda, Ivory Coast,etc.

As a knowledge seeking officer, Air Cdre Atiq completed his Masters in Defence Studies (MDS) from Defence Services Command and Staff College, Mirpur in 2008 and Masters in Security and Development Studies (MSS) from the National Defence College, Mirpur in 2020 under Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP).

He is having vast experiences in Mountain and Desert Flying as operational helicopter pilot in Chattogram Hill Track, DR Congo, Ivory Coast and Kuwait. In war situation he planned and conducted military operations in MONUC, ONUCI and MONUSCO under UN umbrella as a military helicopter pilot. He has total 4701.40 hours flying in his credit. He has flown SF-25C, PT-6, Fouga-CM-170, FT-6, Bell-206, Bell-212, Mi-17, Mi-171, Mi-171Sh, Mi-8MTV, Mi-172 aircrafts and helicopters.

For his extraordinary courage, dedication, timely decision and successful conduct of UN military operation, he was awarded with Force Commander’s Certificate of Commendation and Appreciation.In recognition of his valuable service, devotion to duty and remarkable achievement inflying during peace time in BAF, he was awarded with “Glorious Flying Medal (GUP)”. He was also awarded with COAS Commendation Certificate twice for his outstanding contribution, dynamic leadership and devotional services rendered to BAF.

Air Cdre Atiq is married to Mrs Shahali Sultana (Mili) and proud father of one son and a daughter. In his leisure time he is interested to read aviation books/journals, explore new technology and play golf.
